During the introduction week at school of 4 days, a few topics were highlighted. The first day we were picked up by the bus to school, within 5 till 10 minutes we already arrived at the campus. The university is split up by three different unities; the main, the auditorium and the modern part. The modern part is used for the grand tour students and has a library, canteen and different kind of rooms such as CBL rooms. I expected to have a mixed class with also local students but the minor was probably only meant for the grand tour students. It would be nice actually to have a combined group because than we would be more involved with the local community. However, the introduction week was at the auditorium and the opening was inspiring with Balinese dancers. The fact that we need to wear uniforms is quite an experience, to be dressed all the same and therefor to create a group feeling.
The fieldtrip during the introduction week was a trip to “Bali village”, which is actually an inside to the Indonesian developing culture level. Industrial workers, working hard on the rice fields at the age of above 60. It was a huge impact to see the hard working old people but also the water buffalos at the rice fields. Machine aren’t used. The tour through the bali village showed me the poor side, but also a creative side of the culture. Because of the poverty and a lots of free time, the families used their time to create decoration or other handy items such as drink cups, food plates, servies etc. from coconuts e.g.
